New Zealand Prisoners Denied "Communion Wine"

... in other and more accurate words, the Precious Blood.

They're basically forbidding Masses for prisoners.

The full story ...

Another story. Evidently it just happened "recently."

How likely is it that this is true?

Rant

Is it possible for clothing designers to make a short-sleeve buttoned blouse/shirt that has a button and button hole at the top that doesn't have a whole bunch of embroidered crap all over the blouse? None of this doing a V-neck and no button at top so the whole world can see cleavage?

Why is this all of a sudden impossible with short-sleeve shirts? Just keep the scissors straight when cutting the fabric there. What is so hard?

They use to be able to do this ... five years ago.

If anyone knows where they can be found online, that would be great. 1X or size 18.

UD-Mercy Agrees to Meet with Pro-Lifers

This is a step in the right direction, but quite frankly, it doesn't mean much.

The diversity job search page is down with links with Planned Parenthood, but this is still up: It links NARAL and Planned Parenthood.

Just take it down already. How long would it take to arrange with IT? A couple of hours? They're stalling. Please ...

Just What Does Irreconcilable Mean?

From New Oxford Dictionary:

(of ideas, facts, or statements) representing findings or points of view that are so different from each other that they cannot be made compatible: these two views of the early medieval economy are irreconcilable.
(of people) implacably hostile to each other.

So when Ave Maria told the world that Fessio was fired and cited "irreconcilable differences" they didn't say it was because the people, or that they had difference or points of view that couldn't be compatible, right?

Except evidently, they were, for now ...

Wrong again

It's good that the adult stem cell research is getting state funding in New Jersey. The following paragraph, is puzzling:

Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine signed a bill last December providing $270 million in state aid to build five research centers, including a $50 million center at the New Jersey Institute of Technology that will be devoted to adult stem cell research. Such work is morally acceptable, according to the Catholic viewpoint, because no living thing is destroyed in the process of extracting the "adult" cells. They are found in placentas, umbilical cords, bone marrow, fat cells and nasal membranes.
Why?

Because humans are persons, not things. You could theoretically kill an embryonic animal to do research to find cures for human diseases. Problem is, they don't work and the scientific community acknowledges this.

Catholic University in Britain 'close' to being independent

I don't know much about the Privy Council and what it would mean for it to be independent, but it's still interesting ...

St Mary’s University College in Twickenham is on course to become England’s first fully independent Catholic university since the Reformation, possibly as early as next September.
The Twickenham-based institution was awarded the power to grant its own taught degrees and awarded university college status by the Privy Council in January.

Information about the school itself:

St Mary's has a long and distinguished history as a Catholic college for the education of teachers. It was founded in 1850 by the Catholic Poor Schools Committee to meet the need for teachers to provide an education for the growing numbers of poor Catholic children.
Evidently the university is considered a college within the University of Surrey.

All Things Considers Confession ...

Here's a link to an NPR report about the big push on the part of the Archdiocese of Washington to go to confession.

About 42 percent of Catholics never go to confession? How many of those also never attend Mass? Just wondering.

You Are a Daily Rosary (Very Traditional) Catholic
You'd like the church to revive the time-honored devotions, liturgical practices, and strong institutional discipline that prevailed before the Second Vatican Council—and you're hoping that Pope Benedict XVI will lead the church in exactly that direction. Your favorite hymn is probably a traditional Latin composition such as the "Panis Angelicus," and your favorite pope is probably a pioneer of the Church's great liturgical tradition such as Gregory the Great. You loved "The Passion of the Christ."

Buffalo Jesus ... only on eBay

That's what I get for buying a bunch of Rosaries on eBay.

I'm currently working 6 days a week, and the only day I have available is Sunday. What self-respecting Catholic store within driving distance is open on Sunday?

So I went on eBay.

I got an email telling me to check out what's new. I check it out and found this gem.

Do I think this real? Not really. Is it amusing? Oh, yea. Funny no one has bid on it yet.

Hopefully I'll be able to post more often soon. Not sure, though, that anyone is missing me. I'm pretty sure no.

Computer, RIP

My 2 and a half year old computer died about two weeks ago. Appears to be the motherboard. Motherboards are $160. I am not a computer geek so by the time repair time is factored in, I might as well purchase another computer. Arrangements are being made.

E-machine 2742. Mine isn't the only one that's had that problem. Yet tech store employees tell me I should be satisfied. Right. My first laptop lasted four years. This was a desktop. Thought would be more sturdy.

Hopefully I can at least retrieve the hard drive. Evidently you can get a case and firewire it, but I don't know what the part is called.
